“Information Governance: The Cornerstone of a Modern High Performing eHR”

Abstract:

The foundation of successful Electronic Health Records programmes is a well constructed infrastructure consisting of clinical, technological, regulatory and legislative provisions.  Key amongst these is the suite of disciplines known collectively as Information Governance (Security, Confidentiality, Privacy, Data Quality and Data Integrity).  Together these areas touch upon all aspects of eHRs, and having robust approaches to them is key to eHR delivery and adoption.

In this presentation we will explore some of the scope of Information Governance: the interplay between the disciplines, the way in which “IG” affects other areas of an eHR programme, how Confidentiality and Privacy needs can be addressed by well thought out security controls, approaches to data quality; and the preservation of data (and information) integrity throughout the information lifecycle.

Finally, we will look at how a holistic Information Governance programme can be established within a “green field” environment – and taken forward to a sophisticated tool in the provision of successful eHealth.

Bio:
A leader within Accenture’s Global Health and Public Service practice, Andy has a demonstrable history of providing leadership within the specification, development and deployment of innovative solutions for Healthcare, Government and Insurance organizations.  He has many years of experience gained throughout health and social care. His recent work includes regional and national bodies, crown corporations and commercial organizations in North America, Europe, Asia and Australasia.

While providing leadership across Healthcare Information Technology for many of the global organizations, Andy is also responsible for Accenture’s Security Practice within Canada and heads a team of Security and Privacy professionals providing professional services across North America and around the world.

Prior to his rejoining Accenture, Andy was the Director of Information Governance for the National Health Service in the United Kingdom, a leader of the National Program for Information Technology (Connecting for Health) and the IT Director of the Commonwealth Business Council for several years.
