Speech Title:
“Healthcare I.T. Harmony”

Abstract:
The United States is assessing significant policy and structural change in regards to healthcare delivery – the largest single sector of the U.S. economy.   Health reform is a contentious and incredibly important topic.  Although there are many challenges associated with healthcare delivery in the country, through the debate a number of best practice organizations and processes have been noted.  In many instances, technology has been determined a requirement for achieving these best practices and providing enhanced levels of quality care.  We will discuss some of these noted best practices and the role technology plays in achieving them.
This presentation will also address some of the challenges of healthcare delivery and the manner in which technology can help reduce the impact of these challenges.  Intermountain Healthcare has been highlighted in the national debate as one organization that can deliver extraordinary care at costs well below the national average.  We will discuss what is different at Intermountain and how I.T. plays a critical role.

The U.S. Federal HIT Policy Committee was selected by Congress to provide recommendations to the Federal Government on actions that can be taken to expedite the achievement of healthcare reform goals with technology.  The HIT Policy Committee has been focused on defining what should be the meaningful use of EMRs in the United States and how EMR can be more rapidly advanced across the country.

Now is the most exciting time ever to be involved in healthcare I.T.  Many important factors are coming together in a harmonious fashion to enhance healthcare technology use around the world.  It is time to seize the opportunities of today.
